As in Catholic communities all over the world, on this day the Eucharist is not celebrated. All attention is focused on the mystery of the Cross—the saving sacrifice of Jesus… the Gospel account of the Passion, the Adoration of the Cross, and Holy Communion (the Body of Christ consumed to the very last fragment—for in Ethiopia there is no tradition of the Lord’s Tomb, and so on this day the Blessed Sacrament is not present in the tabernacle until the Easter Vigil).
A time of great silence before the mystery of Salvation.
