At Mission of Hope, we strive every day to change the lives of the most vulnerable people in the Gode region of Ethiopia. Our efforts focus on restoring dignity, providing education, and creating opportunities for the local community to grow independently. Thanks to the support of our volunteers, donors, and local staff, we run several key projects that bring real help.
1. Project Tamara – Weaving as a Path to Independence
One of our most important initiatives is Project Tamara, which offers work and hope to local women. Around 30 women learn traditional weaving and, under the guidance of an experienced teacher, create delicate handmade shawls. This gives them skills to support their families and break free from difficult life situations. Many of these women previously had no other source of income and were forced to work in local “cafés” – a euphemism for brothels. Project Tamara not only provides income but also restores dignity and opens the door to a new future.
2. Education and Childcare
Our mission also includes education for the children of women involved in Project Tamara. More than 70 children are cared for in our nursery and three-grade school. Our aim is not only to provide basic education but also to create a safe place where children can grow and gain knowledge that will give them a chance for a better future. We know how crucial education is for this community, which is why we also invest in teacher training to continually improve the quality of education.
3. Material Support and Agricultural Work
We also support local families by employing men in agricultural work and plantation projects. These activities not only provide access to food for the community but also create stable jobs, which are essential in the fight against poverty. Our farm enables the development of crops, and the profits are reinvested into the mission’s growth.
4. Support for Women and Their Families
Many of the people we help had no way of supporting their families in the past. Our work offers not only employment but also emotional and spiritual support. We organize meetings that allow women to build community and share their experiences, creating an environment of mutual support and encouragement.
Our mission is based on simple yet effective principles: giving people the chance to grow independently and providing the basic conditions for a dignified life. We believe that through education, work, and solidarity, we can build a better future for the people of Gode.
Your support helps us continue this mission and transform the lives of those who need it most. Join us and help build a world full of hope!
